Garden of Eden Project and River Clean Up
|by Irene Heavey|
The Gaisce Society in LYIT are preparing for their 5th returning trip to ‘The Garden of Eden’ rehabilitation centre in Thailand for people suffering from HIV and AIDs. The students work alongside the residents at all stages of the projects to ensure their sustainability. Previous projects undertaken by the students include the building of a frog and fish farm which enable the residents to become self-sufficient. All money raised is taken directly to the centre and is used for the benefit of the residents.
LYIT Canoe Club undertook a river clean up in Lifford, Co. Donegal where both the river and the river bank were cleaned. Over 30 volunteers helped out and it is hoped to make it an annual event.
