During the period June- December 2014, a group of 12, competitively selected, national experts in community-based learning and community based research came together to share their knowledge and co-create a national framework Programme to support all HEI staff to implement CBR and CBL into existing or new curricula modules.

As a result this December Campus Engage launched a new capacity building service, The Participate Programme. The Programme offers staff and community-based organisations a selection of capacity building initiatives that will give attendees the tools to incorporate community-based research and learning into their curriculum and work plans. The Programme offers an intense one day kick-start workshops; listen to case studies, and the opportunity to get network. Attendees walk away with a plan to implement community-based research or community-based learning into their curriculum. They are also offered access to mutually negotiated peer support (online and in person) to help achieve goals. The NUIG accredited Civic Engagement module is also part of this initiative.

The first of four national kickstart session, specifically offered to HEI staff, took place in the Cork in partnership with City Council, in their Millennium Hall, 16 December, 2014. Due to the mentoring offer, the programme day is limited 40 places. The first kick-start booked out in 24hours, with a waiting list. Note: The second kickstart took place in Galway on the 26 January, 2015. Two further kick starts are planned to take place in the Mansion House Dublin, March, 2015. The workshop Programme is delivered by a national panel of experienced practitioners and scholars in community-based research and community-based learning. Click here to register
