In association with Campus Engage, the Community Knowledge Initiative (CKI) at NUI Galway is delighted to be able to offer places on the Civic Engagement module as part of the Post Graduate Diploma in Academic Practice, commencing on Thursday 14th January 2016 (12pm to 3pm) in the Arts Millennium Building at NUI Galway. As part of our ongoing commitment to civic engagement within higher education nationally and the Campus Engage Participate Programme, this module is offered for free to academic staff within the higher education sector in Ireland.
This module, which can be taken on a stand-alone basis or as part of the Postgraduate Diploma provides an exciting opportunity to not just learn more about community university partnerships but also to actively participate in discussion, debate and the design of new programmes and initiatives in this important area. Full participation and completion of the module will yield 10 ECTS which can be either put towards the Postgraduate Diploma or used as RPL/professional credits for other purposes.
Amongst the topics covered in the module supported by a range of guest speakers from the university and community sectors are:
- the ‘university’ and its role within society;
- models and approaches to civic engagement and higher education;
- exploration of service or community based learning, volunteering, and engaged research.
- perspectives from community partners.
The course will commence on the following Thursdays in 2016 from 12noon to 3pm:
