Higher education institutions launch new national student volunteering online social innovation: StudentVolunteer.ie

We are delighted to announce the launch of the new online national student volunteering database, ‘StudentVolunteer.ie’.

Seven institutions have taken a leadership role nationally, as the founding members and pioneers of the system including: TCD, UL, DCU, NUIG, UCC, IT Tralee and IT Tallaght.

Seed funded by Campus Engage Steering Committee, Studentvolunteer.ie is an internationally scalable, web based social innovation, and one-stop-shop portal connecting higher education students with civil society organisation volunteering opportunities. Students can browse and apply for volunteering opportunities nationally or internationally; manage their profile and volunteering activity online; track volunteering hours; gain recognition and apply for volunteering awards and certificates. Its data management functionality means each participating HEI can extract and report daily, weekly, monthly or annual qualitative and quantitative information on student volunteer learning experience, numbers of student volunteers, hours volunteered, number of civil society organisations working with them. Three of the seven institutions held their regional launches on campus in December 2015. The events held at DCU, IT Tallaght, and IT Tralee were a huge success with attendance from institution President, community partners, students, staff, local dignitaries and media. We would be very grateful if you could spread awareness of the initiative amongst colleagues, your civil society partner organisations, students, and colleagues. You can also tweet about the database using the #studentvolunteer hashtag.
