On September 20 Campus Engage Steering Committee held its first meeting of the new academic calendar year. The aims was to bring together Steering Committee members, Working Group Convenors, and community and voluntary representatives to work on a couple of issues of national interest.
We were delighted to welcome Marian Vickers, Vice Chair of the Irish Local Development Network, the representative body of Local Development Companies (LDCs) in Ireland and Ivan x, Director of Advocacy for the Wheel, a national organisation that represents and supports community, voluntary and charitable organisations in Ireland, as objective voices in the development of our strategic plans.
The day was based around inputs from international experts in the field of HEI civic engagement, including Paul Manners, Director of the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) Bristol; and Ursula Kelly, University of Strathclyde, Scotland, an independent consultant on higher education economic impact and policy.
Paul worked with the group on the development of a Campus Engage National Strategy, while Ursuala Kelly presented on the development of a set of Campus Engage national indicators of success, and the logistics of setting up an online tool to record and measure activities regionally and nationally.
