Trinity, Campus Engage & Science Foundation Ireland Present:
The Participate Programme Workshop
Trinity, Campus Engage and Science Foundation Ireland have come together to offer higher education staff and community organisations a 3 hour workshop on how to incorporate accredited community based learning and research process into any curriculum.
Community-based learning is a form of experiential education with a community/public engagement underpinning. Students gain academic credit for a project or piece of research they derive from engaging and reflecting on a learning experience in partnership with a community-based organisation. This allows students to explore ‘real life’ problem solving, their future role as a professional, and how they can contribute to address Irish, EU and international social challenges.
This kickstart workshop is delivered by expert practitioners in collaboration with community partners including Age Action Ireland, Enable Ireland, the Centre for Universal Design, Saint John of Gods and others. Case studies of successful Irish student's projects covering everything from client-led web apps for children with disabilities; to new product development for older people and road safety will be showcased as part of this programme.
Lunch will be provided for all attendees after the workshop.
Target audience: academic staff from social, life, and natural sciences; humanities, engineering & technology; management, and community partners.
Why take part?
- Network with CSOs to open up new learning and research project ideas, interdisciplinary funding opportunities, or publication ideas.
- Walk away with tools to develop learning outcomes, assessment techniques, student-organisation learning agreements, process guides, and case studies of successful projects.
- Become part of a national ‘community of practice’. (Between March-August 2015 over 300 staff signed up to this Programme).
