UCD Sport in the Community

UCD Sport clubs are the centre of student sport at University College Dublin. The Athletic Union Council, whom governs the affiliated clubs, understands the importance of engaging with the local community and encourages its club members to use their expertise to involve themselves in projects with the local area. Throughout the years many UCD students benefited the local community through their involvement in a variety of ways, whilst at the same time developing their own skill set.  In 2015/2016 27 UCD Sport Clubs, through over 800 club members, participated in a wide variety of initiatives within the community, in recognition of this valuable contribution a list of the many forms of engagement is outlined below:

  • Volunteer Coaching to Special Olympics (UCD Golf Club)
  • Experience Japan, JKA Shotokan Ireland Demo (UCD Karate Club)
  • Kung Fu Movie Night (UCD Kickboxing Club)
  • St. Vincent de Paul Clothes Collection (UCD Mountaineering Club)
  • Orienteering Event Hosts for Local Orienteering Community (UCD Orienteering Club)
  • Assisted at Leinster Orienteering 3 Day Event (UCD Orienteering Club)
  • Organised and Promoted a Daffodil Day Event for the Irish Cancer Society (UCD Men’s Rugby Club)
  • Collecting for Daffodil Day for the Irish Cancer Society (UCD Women’s Rugby Club)
  • Fundraising for the Blackrock Hospice (UCD Sailing Club)
  • Volunteer Officiating for Schools & Varsity Competitions (UCD Sailing Club)
  • Volunteer Coaching for Schools and Clubs in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown area (UCD Men’s Soccer Club)
  • Provides opportunities for local underage soccer clubs to get involved in 1st team match days as halftime mascots and entertainment (UCD Men’s Soccer Club)
  • Fundraising for Breast Cancer (UCD Women’s Soccer Club)
  • Promoting Awareness - Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon Campaign  (UCD Women’s Soccer Club)
  • Movember Awareness Campaign for the Movember Foundation organised by UCD Sport (UCD Athletic Club, UCD GAA Men’s Football Club, UCD GAA Camogie Club, UCD Men’s Rugby Club, UCD Women’s Rugby Club, , UCD Men’s Soccer Club and UCD Women’s Soccer Club)
  • Paint it Pink Campaign for the Irish Cancer Society organised by UCD Sport (UCD Ladies Basketball Club, UCD GAA Men’s Football Club, UCD Men’s Soccer Club, UCD Women’s Soccer Club, UCD Rowing Club, UCD Women’s Rugby Club, UCD Trampoline Club)
