The Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) has decided to set up an annual scholarship in memory of its Honorary President, Gianfranco Martini, who passed away in October 2012. Gianfranco Martini was among the initiators of the concept of Local Democracy Agencies and became the first President of ALDA when it was founded in 1999.

British Science Association Media Fellowships Scheme Now Open

Applications are open for the British Science Association Media Fellowships scheme

As part of this fellowship, open to Irish applicants, researchers will experience first-hand how science is reported by spending 3-6 weeks on a summer placement with a print, broadcast or online journalist such as the Guardian, The Irish Times or BBC.

They will work with a professional journalist to produce well informed, newsworthy pieces about developments in science and come away better equipped to communicate their research to the media and the public.

HEA launch report to set out the initial framework for the evaluation of performance in Irish higher education.

Campus Engage welcome the positioning of community engagement in the overall framework, and review of existing methods for measuring civic engagement, as presented in the report. We look forward to assisting in the development of supportive and meaningful indicators of success which will assist an evidence-informed approach to civic engagement practice and policy both locally and at a national level.

RISE call for chapter manuscripts is now open

The RISE call for chapter manuscripts is now open, recommending that authors first send by January 30, 2014, a brief one-page description of the proposed manuscript.

The first calls in Horizon 2020 are published

The European Commission has presented calls for projects under Horizon 2020. Worth more than €15 billion over the first two years, the funding is intended to help boost Europe's knowledge-driven economy, and tackle issues that will make a difference in people's lives.
For the first time, the Commission has indicated funding priorities over two years, providing researchers and businesses with more certainty than ever before on the direction of EU research policy.

UL Diploma in Community Wellness, Empowerment, Leadership and Lifeskills (CWELL)

A new programme, ‘Diploma in Community Wellness, Empowerment, Leadership and Lifeskills (CWELL)’ developed and run in partnership by the University of Limerick and St Mary’s Community was officially launched on Tuesday 26th November, 2013. Interested parties and members of the public gathered to attend the launch event which took place at King John’s Castle, 7pm, Tuesday 26th November.
