2011 European Year of Volunteering

A National Steering Group established to promote Ireland's involvement in the European Year of Volunteering in 2011 held its inaugural meeting this week.

2011 has been designated by the EU as the European Year of Volunteering (EYV2011).

The objectives of EYV2011 are to:

  • Create an enabling environment for volunteering
  • Empower volunteer organisations
  • Recognise volunteering activities
  • Raise awareness about value & importance of volunteering

Volunteering Ireland has been designated as the National Coordination Body (NCB) in Ireland by the Department of Community, Equality & Gaeltacht Affairs.

Volunteering Ireland will be responsible for coordinating all aspects related to the implementation of the EYV 2011 at national level, and will ensure coordination with Community level activities and the overall planning of the EYV2011.

This is the provisional website of the European Year of Volunteering 2011 (EYV 2011) campaign. The website is one of the main elements supporting all the tasks and activities of EYV 2011. It will integrate all the various parts of the campaign in one central online space and complement all the activities taking place offline with various unique online tools and services.

The EYV 2011 Alliance is an informal network of major NGO European networks with a particular interest in volunteering who have committed to working together on the promotion, lobbying, organisation and implementation of the EYV 2011.
