Campus Engage
CAMPUS ENGAGE is a network for the promotion of civic engagement activities in Irish higher education. It is an initiative funded by the Irish government, through the Higher Education Authority (HEA) Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF 1). The current Campus Engage partners are: Dublin City University, National University of Ireland, Galway (lead partner), National University of Ireland, Maynooth, University College Dublin and the University of Limerick.
The network aims to strengthen the relationship between higher education and the wider society, through promoting civic engagement activities in higher education in Ireland and facilitating the sharing of knowledge and resources between academic and civic communities. It will support the development of activities such as: service learning / community based learning, student volunteering, knowledge exchange and research, in order to increase the number of courses, activities and levels of participation in these areas across Irish higher education. The network's inaugural international conference, entitled 'Higher Education and Civic Engagement Partnerships: Create, Challenge, Change' was held in Dublin in June 2009. In addition, a comprehensive review of civic engagement activities in higher education will be carried out in 2010, which will provide recommendations for the long-term, sustainable development of civic engagement and active citizenship in Irish higher education.
Campus Engage will provide a forum for discussion and sharing of information among higher education academics, administrators and students, and people involved in community organisations. We hope that this network will provide effective channels of communication and dialogue among all those involved in civic engagement activities. We invite you to contact us at info@campusengage.ie with any queries or with information you would like us to circulate and share through our website and network.
